Customer challenge
At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, this state's unemployement system struggled to handle a significant increase in claims. The state was also under pressure to meet a federal mandate to modernize their infrastructure — a requirement for the state to receive government funding.
How Kyndryl helped Kyndryl conducted an assessment of the state's unemployment system and proposed a plan to address the limitations that were causing the system to fail. Kyndryl also helped the state to plan, implement and project manage the infrastructure modernization effort required for federal funding.
Outcomes Working with Kyndryl, the state was able to improve their unemployment system and minimize serious disruption to their critical citizen systems. They successfully met the federal modernization requirements and were able to use the Kyndryl project plan to secure federal funding from HHS to complete the project.

Customer challenge
After a ransom attack, a major metropolitan transportation agency needed to improve their cybersecurity posture and continuously assess the vulnerability of their information technology and operational technology environments.
How Kyndryl helped Kyndryl and IBM collaborated with the agency to proactively secure their systems: updating all patches across IT environments, verifying compliance with security settings, remediating issues, and managing all governance and monitoring.
Outcomes The state agency was able to reinforce security across their environments and protect systems that enable public transportation — including bus, rail and train — serving a vast region and millions of citizens.
Public school system enables digital equity for students
Customer challenge An underserved public school system sought to provide digital equity for all students through universal broadband access, a need that became even more critical during the Covid-19 pandemic.
How Kyndryl helped Kyndryl worked with the public education system to distribute necessary hardware and configure remote access to individual school networks. Internet access was provided inside and nearby school buildings to ensure uninterrupted accessibility for all students.
Outcomes Students are more engaged and have opportunities to specialize by connecting with other institutions. Teachers can access new resources to help them improve the educational experience.
Next steps
