GPA, one of the largest food retail groups in South America, has been known to Brazilians since 1948. But like many storied retailers, the company knew it needed to continue modernizing its e-commerce offerings to better connect with consumers.
Owner of Compre Bem, Extra and Pão de Açúcar chains, in addition to exclusive brands like Qualitá and Taeq, GPA plans to double its online sales by 2024. To do that, the company decided to transfer more than 600 servers and around 250 systems from its current IT infrastructure to Google Cloud. This cloud migration process presents a more modern, agile and connected solution of digital transformation that will support sales through digital channels growth.
Choosing Kyndryl for Cloud Migration and IT Solutions
Kyndryl was chosen to support the Google Cloud migration initiative and will be responsible for centralizing and integrating all partners who will be part of this project, which is expected to last two years until GPA is 100% in the cloud.
“We worked together with GPA for a year and a half on this specific project and together we designed this cloud journey, which I am sure will be a success,” said Luis Marcelo Teixeira, Sales Director at Kyndryl Brazil. “The execution, management and maintenance of the cloud environment will be delivered as a service managed by Kyndryl. The consumption model as a cloud service allows new demands to be delivered quickly to the business, generating immediate results and innovation for GPA.”
This will be the first project of the alliance between Google Cloud and Kyndryl in Brazil. Over the next five years, GPA expects a cost reduction of around 30% with this cloud migration, in addition to modernizing the company's digital environment. “When we thought about structuring this journey to the cloud, we understood that in addition to technical knowledge, two other factors would be very important: knowledge of our environments and the customer experience. Our IT environment is complex, full of technologies with different degrees of maturity that Kyndryl, our longtime partner, knows very well. Google Cloud comes with the full customer experience, and with this mix between the two, we will be able to deliver the experience that our premium audience needs,” explains Robledo Castro, CIO of GPA.
“With Google Cloud, GPA will have greater flexibility, scalability, as well as access to all Google tools for data analysis, creating predictive models that can bring better business decisions,” said Silvia Somazz, Head of Retail at Google Cloud. “By uniting GPA's commitment to innovation and the best of Google Cloud's cloud technology, we can help build solutions that are increasingly in line with the expectations of food retail customers, an industry that is present in our daily lives.”
