Kyndryl is a different kind of company. As the world’s largest provider of IT infrastructure services, Kyndryl set goals to hold itself accountable for progress across its businesses, operations, supply chain and society.
The Corporate Citizenship Report, Kyndryl’s first as an independent company, demonstrates its commitment to creating a legacy that drives business growth and accountability for long-term societal impact.
"At Kyndryl, we’re embracing environmental stewardship, fostering social inclusivity and promoting good governance practices,” said Martin Schroeter, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kyndryl.
The report highlights the accomplishments and methodology used to disclose Kyndryl’s activities within three categories: Environment (sustainability programs), People (social responsibility programs) and Trust (corporate governance programs).
In Kyndryl’s first full fiscal year, the company has focused on promoting policies, programs and practices that motivate people, embedding environmental, social and governance best practices into its operations and culture.
“The programs and policies have been integral parts of our company because we understand and care about the global impact we can make in our communities and environment, and in delivering an inclusive and sustainable future,” said Faith Taylor, Chief Sustainability and ESG Officer at Kyndryl.
Read below for seven highlights from the report.
1. Reduced environmental impacts
Kyndryl recognizes the impact it has on the environment and the responsibility to promote sustainable practices. As a result, the company committed to net zero emissions by 2040 and set near-term targets to reduce emissions for scopes 1 and 2, direct and indirect emissions, by 75%. The company also said it would obtain 100% of purchased electricity through renewable sources.
2. Built a responsible supply chain program
Kyndryl committed to working with suppliers to procure and deliver products and/or services that can help reduce environmental impact and can be reused, recycled or disposed in an environmentally sound manner. Additionally, the company committed to supporting the vision and goals of the Responsible Business Alliance, a coalition that has its own set of social, environmental and ethical industry standards. In partnership with RBA, Kyndryl requires all its suppliers adhere to RBA's Code of Conduct and sign it during onboarding.
3. Earned an EcoVadis Silver rating
In Kyndryl’s first full fiscal year, it received an EcoVadis Silver rating, which placed it in the top 25% of all participating organizations. As an IT managed services company, Kyndryl’s energy needs are among the highest in the computer programming, consultancy and related activities industry — so it was equally important that Kyndryl’s environmental score was in the top 9% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the category.
4. Established and advanced The Kyndryl Way culture
In 2022, the company introduced The Kyndryl Way — how it defines its services-led culture in a bid to be an employer and partner of choice. Since then, the company has transformed its culture through implementing new behaviors, systems and symbols to embody these principles and ways of working. The Kyndryl Way is about how Kyndryls work together and deliver value — it is foundational to business growth. Kyndryl has made significant progress in its cultural transformation journey across the global organization, resulting in strong employee engagement levels and 88% of Kyndryls stating that their manager’s behavior is consistent with The Kyndryl Way.
5. Created the foundation for an equitable environment
Kyndryl’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ID&E) strategy aims to build highly collaborative teams that bring a range of experience and viewpoints to solving customer challenges and driving innovation. As part of that effort, the company’s Kyndryl Inclusion Networks (KINs) — company-sponsored, employee-led resource groups — experienced rapid growth, increasing from 5 to 70 within Kyndryl’s first year. As a result, 91% of employees feel they are treated with respect, and 87% feel they can be themselves at work. That sentiment is paying off: Earlier this year, Kyndryl was named on Newsweek’s list of the Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces.
6. Committed to strong and continual improvement of governance
Earning and maintaining trust is critical to delivering value to Kyndryl’s customers, shareholders, partners and communities. To ensure that its corporate governance is robust and effective, Kyndryl focuses on accountability and operating with integrity and transparency. The company’s newly revised code of ethics, called the Kyndryl Code of Conduct, is a tool to help employees comply with applicable laws and regulations and navigate ethical situations that may come up in their daily work. The company achieved a 100% completion rate for Kyndryl Code of Conduct training for the second consecutive year for eligible employees.
7. Set rigorous practices around data privacy and cybersecurity
Kyndryl is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information of its employees and any personal information that customers and business partners share with Kyndryl. Kyndryl requires employees to complete annual, mandatory cybersecurity and data privacy training to ensure its operations are safe and secure.
